Youth and Community Service - Robert Stevenson - Director of Youth and Community Service introduced our outbound Rotary Exchange Student, for 2014/15, one excited Ashley Abraham. At the time of the meeting, Ashley was waiting for a weekend Rotary  gathering of our international District 7090, in Welland, ON , to learn what country she would be going to. We now know this to be Brazil . When Ashley was eight years old she met a Rotary Exchange Student.

From that time forward she was both intrigued and desirous of immersing herself into another culture.
Ashley lives with her parents, two siblings and her attitude filled dog Moose with whom she enjoys the outdoors. At home the family spends many hours conversing and bonding around the dinner table. Ashley’s family moved to Norfolk from Winnipeg. Thus travel to Brazil will not be her first adventure. Ashley is well rounded in both arts and sports such as piano, jazz piano, track and field and may run a marathon one-day. Ashley is active in student life and meetings at her school as well.
Learning a new language will be both fun and challenging. Of course her current favorite book is entitled “The Everything Learning Brazilian Portuguese Book.” There will be some homesickness. But Ashley has already met inbound Rotary Exchange Students from Brazil. “They have made it very clear to me that I will feel right at home in their friendly and homey culture. They usually also add something about the food (can’t wait!) and visiting them too (I’ve managed to make Brazilian sisters before I have even left the country--- Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE) is truly an amazing program)”.
