As Ontario and Norfolk County go into holiday "lock down" due to the resurging growth of Covid-19 infection, Caribbean workers are stranded here because of prohibiting travel restrictions at home. Over 80 farm workers will be spending the holidays far from their homes in bunkhouses.
The Rotary Club of Simcoe is raising money, collecting winter clothing and "connecting" the workers with local agencies such as the Salvation Army. This is not the first time the Club has assisted off shore workers and their families.
The island of Jamaica suffered a devastating hurricane.
In 1988-1989, the Club decided it would help the Jamaican people because many of them worked on Norfolk County farms during the growing season. Over $ 598,000 was raised by the Club for school materials. It remains one of our finest efforts.
